The header

Each card is a sector, from strongest to weakest

The stocks of the S&P 500 fall into 11 sectors. onaswing builds an index for each one and checks it against the market to see which sector is doing better or worse than the market, compared with what is usual for it over the past year: that is the RS.

With that, the sectors are ranked from the strongest, and the email onaswing sends after each market session follows that order.

On the card: Health Care, 12 stocks, RS +4.5, third of 11 sectors.

The stocks

The stocks that meet the rulebook, all of them checked every session

After the close of each market session, onaswing recomputes the 502 stocks of the S&P 500 with their closing price and volume and, applying the same rules to all of them, picks out the ones that meet the conditions to appear on this list.

Each sector with stocks on the list has its own card, with its own list.

On the card: 12 stocks: eight are shown, and «+4 más: MRNA · REGN…» sums up the other four.

The indicators

Three indicators, three conditions to meet

Three analyses at different levels.

  • At the monthly level, long term: the fall has hit bottom. onaswing looks for stocks that fell hard in the past, but have already stopped falling and where buyers are coming back.
  • At the weekly level, medium term: the recovery is serious. The price closes the week above its 30-week average, its strength against the market improves and volume comes along.
  • At the daily level, today: it is in good shape. The price is above its average of the last 50 sessions, which is still rising; its 50, 150 and 200-session averages are also in order.

If an indicator is green, its condition holds; if it is grey, not yet.

Two groups of stocks make it onto the list: full signal, all three indicators green, and getting ready, with the daily indicator still grey.

Growth (fundamentals)

Growth: the business, quarter by quarter

Six squares. The top row compares the earnings per share the company announces in its earnings release.

The bottom row compares its sales.

The three squares of each row compare each of the last three quarters with the same quarter a year earlier. From left to right, from the oldest to the most recent.

  • Green: growth above 25%.
  • Yellow: between 10 and 25% (for sales, between 5 and 25%).
  • Red: less growth, or falling.
  • Grey: no data yet, or not comparable.

On the card: DXCM, earnings per share green in all three quarters and sales yellow; CRL, red in all six.

Days in green

How long it has had all three indicators green

To the right of each stock, +1, +2…: how many market sessions in a row that stock has had all three indicators green after the first one. Past +10 it shows «>10».

On the card: DXCM «+2», three sessions in a row; PFE «+10», eleven; CRL «>10», twelve.

The sector chart

How the sector is doing: two years at a glance

Each sector's list comes with a chart of its last two years: how the sector itself has moved compared with the market, its 30-week average, which marks the trend, and below, its RS week by week.

On the card: the Health Care RS ends in green, +4.5.

The sub-sectors

Inside a sector, each industry moves at its own pace

A sector brings together very different businesses: in Health Care, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, medical equipment and supplies, and care providers and services live side by side. That is why, on the three strongest cards, onaswing goes one level down, to the industries of the index's official classification.

Below the sector chart there is a band with the industries of the stocks on the list, the three strongest if there are more: each one with a small chart of how it has moved, like the sector's, and next to it, its RS and its stocks. Industries that do not fit, or have too few members for a reliable index, go on the «Sin gráfica» line.

On the card: Biotecnología (BIIB, INCY, MRNA, REGN), Herramientas y servicios de ciencias de la vida (CRL, TECH) and Proveedores y servicios sanitarios (CNC); without a chart, PFE (Farmacéuticas) and the ones in Equipos y suministros sanitarios.
